Meet Bill Macon.
I acquired Ideal Aviation in 2011 and since then I've earned my private, instrument, and multi-engine ratings. It's been a fantastic opportunity to combine work and pleasure. I enjoy flying for business and personal trips.
Our family has a long history in aviation. My father and mother were both pilots. In the 1930s, my grandfather owned the Von Hoffmann Aircraft Corporation and the Von Hoffmann Flying School.
My mother, Beverly von Hoffmann, obtained her pilot license in 1943, just past her 18th birthday. She reveled flying her Stinson during her days at Stevens College in Columbia, Missouri, often taking friends on weekend outings to St. Louis and beyond.
My father, Bill Macon Sr., was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. “Big Bill” is pictured here after completing his flight training at Cimmaron Army Airfield in Oklahoma in 1943. Macon, Sr. went on to teach radio communications at Scott Field during war, just down the road from where Ideal Aviation is now.
We've Come a Long Way Since Then
Ideal Aviation expanded its operation and spans over three hangars in St. Louis Downtown Airport. Today, we have over 15 flight instructors and 10 different aircraft and we're continually growing. Ideal Aviation is a full-service aircraft rental, flight training, and fractional aircraft ownership that has been serving both present and future pilots. We wouldn't be able to get this far without the hard work and commitment from our team.
